While it is true that the 20 Para battalion has elements of special forces the same is not true for the entire battalion, to qualify to join 20 Para one must undergo about three weeks of trials which include physical and mental skills, they recruit mostly from other army units, but also a small select number is drawn from fresh recruits at the army boot camp. It’s only a section of the battalion known as the Kenya Army Special Ops Force that is trained in special forces skills. This is complemented by the Kenya Army Ranger Strike Force, both are trained by American Rangers standards and are about battalion size respectively. Most of the men of the KSOF and KRSF are mostly drawn from 20 para due to para jump skills being a preriquisite. As such Kenya now has two special forces battalions and a para battalion.
