At least ten people were reported to have been killed on Wednesday in a heavy battle between Somali interim Federal Government backing by Kenyan army and islamist militants Al-shabab in lower Jubba region in southern Somalia, officials said.
Somali government Troop officials in the battle zone, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that at least ten Al-shabab fighters were killed by the TFG troops and Kenyan army during an hour-fighting overnight in Burgabo village in lower jubba province close to Somalia’s border with Kenya.
The officials also confessed that one of their combat soldiers has been killed during the fighting.
Witnesses confirmed to Shabelle Media station in Mogadishu that combat took place after Al-shabab fighters launched an offensive on joint military bases for Somali government troops and Kenyan army in Burgabo village in Lower Jubba region of southern Somalia.
Residents said, both side used during the fighting heavy and slight weapons that could be heard across the outskirts of Burgabo village near Kenyan border.
Al-shabab has not made any comments about the battle so far.
