Somali pirates have hijacked an Italian cargo ship and its 18 employees and are holding it for ransom, Radio Garowe reports.
The ship is an Italian cargo ship named Enrico Ievoli and belongs to a Italian company named Marnavi which was hijacked near Oman.
According to the Marnavi website the The Enrico Ievoli which was carrying 15,750 tonnes of caustic soda which is used as a chemical base for paper, and textiles from the UAE to the Mediterranean.
The crew included six Italians, seven Indians and five Ukrainians.
The company posted on their website an emergency notice detailing that the hijacking happened without any injuries or damages and that everybody on board is unharmed.
Marnavi’s website went on to describe the captain’s experience with the company and how the Italian government is assisting the company with this crisis.
