EAC Defence Experts are meeting in Kigali from 13-18 February to review existing EAC Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs) on disaster management, counter terrorism and peace support operations. They are also expected to make a zero draft of SOPs on counter piracy.
The chairperson of the meeting, Brig Gen Francis Murgor from Kenya, disclosed that, once produced, the SOPs will streamline EAC joint military operations when reacting to regional security challenges. The SOPs will be tested and validated during the EAC field training exercise (FTX) scheduled this year.
While in Rwanda, the defence experts will also make an evaluation of Gabiro Military School of Infantry that was identified as a centre of excellence for Non-Commissioned Officers’ training in EAC.
