Wu Shengli, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and commander of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), met with Abdulrahman Aden Cher, the visiting commander of the Navy of Djibouti in Beijing on the afternoon of July 8.
Wu Shengli said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Djibouti, the bilateral friendly relations have kept deepening, and the two countries have maintained the same stance and supported each other on many international issues. The militaries of the two countries, especially the two navies, have maintained smooth relations and carried out frequent exchanges. Since the implementation of escort missions by the Chinese naval escort taskforce in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast, the Chinese warships berthed at the port of Djibouti several times for rest and replenishment, and were warmly and friendly received by the Djibouti side.
Wu Shengli said that in recent years, China’s relations with African countries, including Djibouti, have continuously witnessed new development on the basis of the traditional friendly relations, and the Chinese side hopes to carry out more in-depth exchanges and cooperation with the navies of African countries including Djibouti.
Abdulrahman said that the Djibouti side attaches great importance to its relations with the Chinese side, and hopes to further strengthen cooperation between the two navies and promote continuous development of the relations between the two navies. He also expressed his thanks to the Chinese side for its support to the construction of Djibouti Navy.
It is learned that Abdulrahman and his party will also visit the East China Sea Fleet, the South China Sea Fleet and the Naval Arms Command College as well as the warships of the Chinese PLA Navy.
